PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is expanding its investment into the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) business, with one of the plants set to be established on post-mining land in Ombilin, Sawahlunto.

“We will build PLTS business investments at six locations, including post-mining land,” said PTBA's Corporate Secretary, Niko Chandra, to journalists during a media gathering at Hotel Santika Premiere in Bandar Lampung, which concluded on Saturday (11/9).

The PTBA Corporate Secretary further explained that the PLTS on post-mining land will be established in Ombilin (Sawahlunto, West Sumatra), Tanjung Enim (South Sumatra), and Bantuas (Samarinda, East Kalimantan), which are currently in the development or construction stage. Each of these PLTS installations will have a maximum capacity of 200 MWp (megawatt-peak).

Additionally, in the development stage, there is a 40 MWp PLTS in Padang, West Sumatra, in collaboration with PT Semen Padang, a 2 MWp PLTS along the Toll Road in partnership with PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk, and a 6.4 MWp PLTS in Bangka Belitung and Cilegon (Banten) in collaboration with PT Timah Tbk.

Niko also mentioned that PTBA has already implemented a 241 KWp PLTS at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in collaboration with PT Angkasa Pura II and a 400 KWp PLTS at Bali Mandara Toll Road.

“Previously, PTBA also explored the application of new and renewable energy technology through PLTS-based irrigation in Community Empowerment Development (PPM),” stated Niko.

According to Niko, 493 hectares of rice fields have been irrigated, benefiting 845 farmers with PLTS-based irrigation. The Talawi PLTS in Sawahlunto, established in 2019, was the first irrigation system with an 18.7 KWp capacity. This initiative was followed by the PLTS in Nanjungan Lahat, PLTS in Tanjung Raja Muara Enim, PLTS in Trimulyo Pesawaran, and PLTS in Rejo Sari Mataram, Central Lampung, in 2023.
